My friends, we have had a few new faces join us recently on Secret Thoughts Within, so I will explain why I’m writing you a letter. The talented Jade at The Unsigned Writer has nominated me for a Mystery Blogger Award. Unfortunately, answering questions is not my personal style, however to honour Jade for nominating me and the sentiments behind Blogger awards, I like to write a letter to my ‘followers’ instead. Now that we are all caught up… on with the letter. I feel there should be trumpets here to make it more exciting. πΊπΊπΊπΊ
Although I usually share backstories on one of my poems, I’ve been in a bit of a funk for a number of days to be honest. Everything I am writing ends up sitting in my drafts folder half finished and believe me, most of them need to be trashed (I’m glad I had some pieces scheduled in advance). I have been feeling uninspired and untalented. I’m aware most of you will nod or smile as you recall your own similar moments. π
Not wanting to sit in my frustration, I decided to do a big read of WP to find comfort and encouragement in your words. I had no set plans and decided to adventure at will. You guys didn’t disappoint, I read so many wonderful things! I ended up on Tom Alexander’s site (one of my followers) and read his poem called The Beginner. Go give it a read; it is the creative heart in written form. Thanks Tom and thank you also for giving me permission to share it in this letter. You are a gem. π
In his poem, Tom talks about the joys of being a beginner and as I said to him, it was the perspective shift I needed. Instead of feeling down about my ‘lack’ I realised it’s my joy and delight to discover new techniques, styles, words and rhymes. Instead of being discouraged, I can look forward to my writing improving while I enjoy new discoveries along the way. I can embrace the life of ‘The Beginner’, as Tom so eloquently wrote. I will keep writing my ‘bad poetry’ until the better ones come and I can publish something new. π
My fellow bloggers, I learn so much from you and am thankful for all you share with me. You push me to grow, open my eyes to new things and inspire new ideas all the time. How can I treasure people I have never met? Easily it seems. I wanted to share Tom’s poem with you and my own creative struggle to help anyone who might feel the same. We all feel it at times. If you find any encouragement from this letter, then I am glad to share it and Tom’s words with you.
And now, an extra special treat for those who actually read all this way, I’ve uploaded an audio of Nonsense onto the original post, but shhhhh, don’t tell the others. Some of you are very clever and have already found it. Well done to you I say, well done. πππ
