Mistakes and Grace (with audio)

Trapped being perfect 
and letting others down 
caught in the lies of performance  
until I almost drowned

Hearing a commotion 
from further down life’s road 
a woman shouted back at me: 
I’ll tell you what I know

You’ll slip-up in this life 
and want to hit the break –  
don’t be so hard on yourself  
it’s okay to make mistakes

I’d never heard of this before 
it was a revelation 
Could l forgive myself 
throw off my hesitation?

To be imperfect is to be human 
and I belong to this flawed race 
So, I broke off expectations
and extended myself grace
