The light has burnt out
the faucet has run dry
Deflated we talk
chalking up a tally of our failures
I didn’t do this
You forgot that
I didn’t acknowledge your wins
You forgot to love me
It appears resentment is stored
in the same compartment as affection
and the heart becomes hardened
in the face of constant rejection
Aching, we let go
I’ll never touch you again
Our thoughts and days will no longer be shared
the door will be slammed
the cord will be cut on all we once were
The light has burnt out
the faucet has run dry
there’s nothing left between us
all that’s left is goodbye
Sadly a story of many today. Beautifully written Bree.
