Old Notebooks

I used to purchase expensive notebooks with thick pages
soft to the touch
smelling of trees and leather

I’d sit with my pen and thoughts
scribing my pain and progress
Deep lines
etching canals on the paper
as deep as my soul

Now
I type strange sentences on a cold, hard device
remembering those notebooks hidden beside my bed

That woman I once was on those pages
I wonder if I can pull her from the ink?

My computer is getting old, and when I use the recording program the fan goes crazy. Hence, I won’t promote many poetry readings until I purchase a new laptop. I recorded an draft version of this one, but the quality is terrible. As you’ve made it to the end of this post, I’ll allow you to listen (because I know you‘re a friend indeed).

  1. I loved this!!! Thanks so much for your audio recordings of your poems!!! Your voice is so great and really makes the words come alive and with emotions felt!!! Bravo, Bellissimo, Dear Bree!!! I agree with Cassa Bassa that the recording quality seemed clear and normal. But it is a good reason/excuse to upgrade to a new laptop!!! LOLChuck 😊😁💖💕🌹

  2. I’m having the same problem with my computer, only difference is mine was always having the crazy fan sound since I bought, which I never understood since my older computer before this never did. And I told you too much, but this reading is nice. Didn’t hear anything wrong or the fan. Good job. Great poem. Fantastic job of showing the changing landscape of writing.

  3. It’s tough, but I think you can. I doubt I can pull the teenager or young man who wrote on pages back. I make too many spelling mistakes without autocorrect and I’m too slow lol. I may have to practice a lot. You read really well btw.

  4. love this one, Bree! I still prefer writing first drafts on paper, but that’s not great on a practical level as my handwriting keeps getting worse. Guess that’s why i’ve been feeling so lazy about typing or editing them later on the laptop haha. btw, my laptop suffers from “fan syndrome” too :D.
