Perfection 1 & 2 (Haiku)

Flawless appearance

Idolised by so many

So full of botox

Perfect smile and eyes

Skin always smooth and youthful

Frequent injections

These two Haiku are a social commentary on the way we idolise perfection and pretend it’s normal. I become frustrated when articles/posts/tweets etc say a celebrity ‘hasn’t aged’ or ‘looks younger than ever’. Can we just cut the crap and acknowledge the truth? If someone in popular media looks perfect, it’s highly likely they’ve had ‘assistance’.
Disclaimer: This is not a comment on the use of botox or fillers or cosmetic surgery; people can do what they want 🙂

    1. I hear you Sirishty. It can be incredibly disheartening, especially when we all men/women/they seem to be falling for it; that beauty equates to value. I think it’s particularly targeted at women. It’s consumerism at its sneaky best.

      I have friends 10 years younger than me that get work done on their faces and I understand it, I really do. I just try to remember what’s really going on and refuse to let others determine my value 😉 💜 Some days are easier than others.

  9. Oh Bree. You know how much I love these two – you couldn’t have chosen a better poetic form for this social commentary! What a wonderful contrast between the (sometimes silenced or hidden) “maximizing” aesthetic effects of these fillers – and the minimalist beauty of your haikus.
