Black Cockatoo

Original image by image Keith Lightbody, found here

Like a black cockatoo
That powerful, elusive bird,Β
You sang out your song
In words I had never heard.

You were larger than life
An unexpected onyx sight,
Bringing me so much peace
As we sat in the evening light.

Alas, like a wild bird
You refused to stay,
I looked for your darkened shape
But you had already flown away.
