Simple (Published)

I know my words are too simple–
My wholehearted “I love you”
falls short any time I write it.
Yet I feel compelled to release
what’s dwelling inside my heart
lest it consumes me.

I don’t have an elegant pen like others
who write perfect poems
made up of perfect words
enough to make anyone believe in love again.
I make do with simple words–
limited expressions
and undecorated lines.

I honestly don’t know how
I could phrase it any other way.
My transparent “I love you”
is the purest thing I will ever write.
The statements of my heart
           are simple
           and they are true.
It’s my hope that these honest words
simply convey
how much I will always love you.

  1. I LOVE THIS! Kind of feels like a “perfect poem” with “perfect words” to me. And sometimes I think the undecorated is really the better decoration, the one most worth praising. I prefer simple and minimal most times. And they do say: “All that glitters ain’t gold.” Lots of lines. Adore this: “My transparent “I love you” / is the purest thing I will ever write. “
