I have been warned that I fall in love with people too easily,
but I have my reasons.
I am not naive,
I can see people’s faults and dark intentions,
but I also see their hidden riches.
I am captivated by the unusual and overlooked rarity in people.
If there is gold in someone,
I will gleefully get a glimpse of it
in all its glittering glory.
I have fine tuned my expertise in extracting
the exceptional from the expected.
I delight in the dingy,
marvel at the mundane,
and comprehend the complicated.
Will I be hurt by such an enthusiastic love for man-kind?
Without a doubt.
Uncovering gold deposits in a person means
you have to push past their pains
and I’ve found that pains
don’t like to be disturbed.
I have taken my fair share of knocks and nicks;
some have left scars.
For love is not easy and some people bury treasures deep.
Still,
I believe it is worth it, for I seek not after fools gold.
I am not easily distracted by fake displays of brilliance.
I’m after the authentic prize,
the one that people often don’t even know they are carrying.
Amongst the dirt of lives I find treasures too beautiful to name.
And just so you know, my heart smiled as big as my grin
when I caught a glimpse of glimmering gold in you.
👏👏👏 Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!!! 😭

Aashi, I just have a quick question… would you be willing to give me permission to link to your page for an award post I’m doing? It’s not for a nomination (I don’t do those), just a mention because you are fabulous 🙂 Otherwise, I can simply write your name without the link if you’d prefer.

Let me tell you this. This is one of the best pieces I’ve read of yours. This is truly amazing and beautiful!! Great work!!
It’s so hard to find that inner gold in a person. It takes time and patience and pain to reach that point deep. And a very few are able to reach.
and I’ve found that pains
don’t like to be disturbed. – This is so so true!
For love is not easy and some people bury treasures deep. – This is deep and relatable.
I’m after the authentic prize,
the one that people often don’t even know they are carrying. – So true! The prize that only others see!!

Excellent. Wonderful. I really like this: “I can see people’s faults and dark intentions, / but I also see their hidden riches” ; and this: “Amongst the dirt of lives I find treasures too beautiful to name.” Fantastic ending lines. And of course a great reading!
