Antipodes

We’re opposites attracting 
with much distance between us
and so many things to misunderstand 
when you’re hot, I’m cold 
when you’re awake, I’m asleep
when you’re quiet, I must speak

Yet, we know what lies between us
is fire and heat and flame 
so we grab our shovels and dig 
through all the muck 
through all the debris of our lives
until we’re reunited again

An antipode is a point on Earth that is diametrically opposite to another. Antipodes are on opposite sides of the earth. You can work out if your city has an anthropoidal city here: https://www.antipodesmap.com.

I’m not an ‘opposite-attracting’ type of woman (is this even a thing?), but I do understand the allure.

  4. I’m not sure if opposites attract either. But yeah, like you, I get the concept. I think you have to have a lot of things in common when in a relationship, but hey, that’s just my opinion. Really nice poem.
