Mango (with audio)

The air is colder
summer has long slipped away
autumn will be gone soon too

I’m on the edge of winter
while others march
into warmer weather

I think of them
– those others –
enjoying the glowing days and weekend swims
There will be no swimming for months here
and the days are crowding me with darkness

I think of them
– those others –
laughing light-heartedly in the evenings
at their summer soirees
drinking cocktails
plucking fruits from platters

But here
the air is colder
and I ache to be somewhere else
adrift with hope
swimming in life’s joy
feeling full of contentment and fruit
because…
my favourite fruit is mango

  1. I wrote one about Mango’s too Bree …

    Mango Smoothie

    I’m reading sacred scriptures
    searching for her leftover pieces
I drank a mango smoothie instead
to feed my word starved head

    I’m following the score
    winners cheating on soft hearts
    Demons covering the doors
and angels cannot reach the charts

I’m laying her on a massage table
    listening to a sad amble
    I prod her skin deep
    Shoulders, down to her feet

I’m rubbing salve over her soul
    cleansing her masking sheet
    Revealing wounded sandholes
    bruised upon a pebble beach

    I’m a healer who’s lost
    Gravitated by her sorrow
How do I catch a falling arrow
    And mend her broken cross
