I am so tired
so very, very tired
of not feeling comfortable within myself
I am so weary
so very, very weary
of putting my heart back on the shelf
Tired
tired tired
Weary
weary weary
Comfortable with nothing
and weary with so little
my shelf life (patience) expired
and my honest thoughts
are cracked and
b r i t t l e
Feelings in disguise,
yet naked to my eyes
tired of dried tears
words stumbling
in my mouth
I’m comfortable
with nothing
I keep wearing
this sad face,
walking through my life
feeling barely
awake
I am so tired
so very, very tired
of not feeling comfortable within myself
I am so weary
so very, very weary
of putting my heart back on the shelf
Tired
tired tired
Weary
weary weary
I open my eyes
stifle a yawn
allow my heart to take some chances
Some friendly hugs
Some cheeky words
Some flirty engaging glances
Still
so tired,
and so weary
I am
Yet I know,
with a smile
a verse
a stream of thought,
a nice coffee
under the sun
I’ll awaken from dreams
and all I have lost
and slowly
but surely discover
my heart’s still beating –

This would work well with the previous poem you wrote. Brittle yet at the end strong, nice collaborative work. 💙

Oh true, thanks for pointing that out Elle! It’s always nice to leave the reader with a reminder that you can be both those things at the same time.

I like this very much, like the stages it documents, love the phrasing, the blend of vernacular and poetic, and that haunting refrain: ‘putting my heart back on the shelf’ —

Thank you so much John! It’s always great when a collaboration takes on a life of it’s own and unfolds effortlessly as was the case with this piece 🙂

This is very interesting, especially the structure 🙂 It feels more like a song than a poem you know 🙂 I like how you ended it on a positive note. Well written you both 🙂

This is really good. The structure of the poem complements its languorous spirit. It’s nice that you ended it on a positive note. Yeah the heart beats strongly, and there’s something you can take from that. Always.
