Killing House Plants

I’m slowly killing another house plant

I try not to read too much into it 
as I watch the leaves turn brown 
and life fades away

The reasons for its demise remain a mystery

Am I watering it too much or not enough? 
Too much sun? 
Did I look at it wrong? 
Was I meant to play Bach whenever I left the house?

My internet searches confirm 
I don’t have a clue what I’m doing

As much as I 
derive self-worth from the survival of my plants 
I don’t have the energy to save this one 
(or the one before) 
(or the one before that)

So, I’ll witness its death 
and wonder what I did wrong 

I already know I won’t learn 

Poor darling 
I had such high hopes 
but it never had a chance
