I believed everything you told me,
so I believed all the stories I wrote
about you. Now I’m here sitting on
my own, staring at my silent phone
I wrote your part, I believed in
your character; you were my knight,
fighting with me and helping me find
personal success on my life quest
But you twisted the script, felt
some cruel need to use my heart and
then just as quickly, you hid
from me; cowards always flee
You never saw the quiet tears on
my face. I don’t think you’ll ever
know about the pain you inflicted
on this fragile heart you dismissed
Now I sit here silently on
my own, with my equality silent phone
and I pick up our old script ready to
start a rewrite with you in a different part
Once, I let someone into my life and I created a version of them in my mind that they never were. When they acted ‘out of character’ it hurt… bad. There are times when we need to rewrite the stories we believed about people; not everyone is a villain, but not everyone is a hero either.
A word of acknowledgement: unfortunately some people do turn out to be dickheads and you never should have been treated like that. Tear that script up, they didn’t deserve you 💜
If you’re looking to read some more honest words, you’ll enjoy my book All Our Secrets available now on Amazon in all territories.
Same thing happened to me in the friendship context. “Trust” is blind but, honest.

Yes, this absolutely happens in friendships too. That is a fantastic saying Tanishq!

This is so good!!!! and yeah…All those villains we sometimes end up dressing up as superheroes (just in our imagination). best approach – rewrite the script for your own good, remove the fantasy element… but keep the old one version too at hand just in case . You never know when it might come in handy – inspiration for your next neo-noir-fantasy-satire story :p

💜 I am glad that you read this when you needed it Ace, but I am sorry to hear you are in this situation. Rewrite that script Hun and give that individual the role of ‘minor character’ 😉

Aww you’re so kind, thank you 🖤🤗! Just learning along the journey and your words were the perfect reminder…minor character indeed 😉🙌🏻.

That’s true. It really hurts when someone close to you betrays you and breaks your trust. It’s hard to trust people again after that. Hard-hitting and beautiful, Bree

I believe what you say about trust is accurate, but I also think people long for genuine community and connection that we try again with others, hoping for a new story 🙂💜

Yes, people d crave for connections. But it took me a long while to open up after my trust had been betrayed…
But eventually we start opening up because hope always presses for another chance

Loss of trust, heartbreak and getting over it by rewriting the script is really a brave act. Beautiful expression of pain and resilient spirit Bree.

Thank you Radhika, nothing like a bit of perspective and a quick rewrite to put things back into their rightful place 💜

Wonderful 👌
It is very difficult to rebuild ourselves when someone breaks our trust, Or they don’t come out like how we thought about them. It becomes hard to trust anyone else after being in this situation.

Wow! Really loved this heartfelt piece on life and it’s lesson/s. As you have written, not everyone is accurately portrayed in the beginning of stories/scripts/movies or life and our trust in a person/love is not always wisely made and rebuilding and letting go is not easy. Walking away through the ashes is painful. Bellissimo, My Dear, Bellissimo!
One of your best!!
Chuck 😊😘💕🌹

Another well-written piece. You know how to get to the core of anything in your words! The dangers of trust 😦

Thank you Ben. Yes, I think there is a lot of vulnerability in trusting someone else… But to live otherwise would be a sad and lonely life (in my mind). I think it’s just important not to blame yourself for someone else’s behaviour and reframe how you see them e.g. they aren’t as wonderful as you wanted them to be 😔

“Vulnerability” that’s the right word. You have written wise words above. I think you’re probably right. It makes sense to me. It’s still very sad, of course. 😦 Good work again!

Beautiful, Bree. I adore how you write about the need to, at times, rewrite the narratives we hold about people. Questioning these narratives is important. I love this piece. ❤️
