My Anodyne (version 2)

You help take the sting out of the day.
Knowing you are only a phone call away,
that very thought makes me feel less alone,
especially when the pain starts creeping in.

It’s your comforting heart that takes the edge off.
Whether it’s in your, ‘What’s going on in that brain of yours?’
or your hilarious thought tangents,
they provide a blessed relief in those aching moments.

And when the heat is rising in my soul,
You always find a way to sooth me,
Letting me know that I’m not stumbling around on my own in this world,
but supported by someone to the very end.

You see me as I am because I let you.
And I let you, because for some reason our thoughts mirror.
Perhaps that is where the healing comes from,
In not having to pretend.

I never take you for granted,
never for one moment.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express
how you have helped me.

How could I ever find the words to let you know?
My ‘Thank yous’ seem so empty,
we both know all you have done for me.
My late-night tears of gratitude are not nearly enough.

You are my anodyne in this season of my life
and I need you to know,
From this friend’s heart to yours,
I love you so.

Anodyne: a painkilling drug or medicine.

This version is for my real Peter (from Neverland Calling) 😁

    1. Oh thanks Angel (or is it Midnite?). I’m glad you have connected to this piece πŸ’œ Haha, as for tmi, it’s fine with me as long as it’s fine for you 😊 It can be interesting navigating a new platform, but it’s wonderful to have you here.

    1. You’re welcome πŸ€— Haha, that is so funny about your comments 🀣 At least you know yourself πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Thank you so much for saying so! I wanted to write something for one of my best friends who has always been wonderful, but particularly ‘extra’ at the moment. I’m happy to say that when I read it to him, he actually liked it πŸ˜†πŸ˜… He’s not really into poetry, so it meant a lot πŸ’œ

    1. Some friends are truly the best and even when/if seasons change, we carry the time we had with them in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Thank you Nathi for sharing with me what this piece meant to you. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
