Monotony

I don’t want to today
Make the beds, iron the clothes, check the emails
Check the emails
Check the emails
I know I should feel blessed and hold onto contentment
But monotony is a draining mistress
She breaks life down into seemingly unfulfilling to-do-lists
I usually love a to-do-list, but not today
Purpose feels empty in the repeating tasks of life
Clean the bathroom, put away the clothes, wash the dishes
Wash the dishes
Wash the dishes
I don’t want to today

  1. Well said indeed, monotony is the greatest killer of motivation when we end up doing the same things everyday. (Washing dishes/waiting/cleaning.)
I liked the rythmic style and the emphasis on the monotony in the poem, and I too share the same feeling towards the unfullfiling tasks in life.
